Widex Moment SmartRIC Review

The Widex Moment SmartRIC is here with a clear mission: redesign the hearing aid to enhance hearing in noise, reduce touch and wind noise, and extend battery life. This innovative approach earned Widex the 2024 Hearing Technology Innovation Award. While many online reviews cover the technical details of these hearing aids, few provide a real-world perspective. After three weeks of using these hearing aids, I’d like to share my firsthand experience.

Comprehensive Care

Tinnitus Care

Living with tinnitus can be challenging, but through personalized care, I help individuals manage and reduce the impact of tinnitus on their daily lives. My tinnitus services include:

  • Comprehensive Tinnitus Evaluations: A thorough assessment to understand the type and severity of tinnitus, using specialized tests.
  • Tinnitus Sound Therapy: Offering sound-based treatments, including hearing aids and sound generators, to provide relief and reduce awareness of tinnitus.
  • Tinnitus Counseling and Education: Helping patients understand the mechanisms behind tinnitus and offering strategies to improve their quality of life.
  • Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT): A scientifically backed approach to desensitizing the brain’s reaction to tinnitus.
Misophonia Care

Misophonia, or sensitivity to certain sounds, can create significant emotional distress. I offer the following services to help manage and reduce the impact of misophonia:

  • Misophonia Evaluations: Identifying sound triggers and assessing the severity of the condition through customized evaluations.
  • Sound Therapy: Using sound therapy as a tool to promote self-regulation and to help mask or reduce triggering sounds.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Collaborating with psychologists to incorporate CBT strategies, which help modify the emotional and behavioral reactions to triggers.
  • Patient Education: Empowering patients with knowledge and strategies to communicate their condition effectively and manage their responses to sound triggers.

Hyperacusis Care

Hyperacusis, or extreme sensitivity to sound, can interfere with day-to-day functioning. My services in hyperacusis treatment include:

  • Hyperacusis Evaluations: Using advanced auditory tests to measure sound tolerance levels and pinpoint the severity of the condition.
  • Sound Therapy for Hyperacusis: Gradually reintroducing sounds at tolerable levels to rebuild sound tolerance and reduce discomfort.
  • Counseling and Support: Providing emotional support and coping strategies to patients and their families, helping them navigate the impact of sound sensitivity on their lives.
  • Interdisciplinary Care: Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to offer comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for hyperacusis patients.
Vestibular Evaluations

The University of South Florida Hearing Clinic specializes in advanced vestibular diagnostics to accurately assess and diagnose vestibular and/or balance disorders. Utilizing state of the art technology, including videonystagmography (VNG), Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP), and Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) we provide precise evaluations to help your care team identify the cause of dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance. Our team comprises of experienced audiologists and vestibular specialists dedicated to providing accurate diagnosis and care.

The vestibular system plays a crucial role in maintaining postural control and gaze stability, allowing you to stay balanced and keep your vision clear while moving. It consists of three semicircular canals (horizontal, anterior, and superior canals) that detect rotational movements, two otolith organs (utricle and saccule) that sense linear movements (like riding in a car) and gravity. These structures send signals through the vestibular nerve (superior and inferior branches) to your brain, helping coordinate movement and balance.

If you have dysfunction in the vestibular system, this can lead to dizziness, vertigo, motion sensitivity, difficulty focusing while moving, or balance issues. If you are experiencing these symptoms, we encourage you to schedule a comprehensive evaluation at our clinic. With our testing, we can help you take your first step toward proper management and treatment, ensuring you get the care you need from experienced vestibular audiologists. Early and accurate diagnosis is the first step toward effective management and improved quality of life.

Accepted Insurance

I accept a variety of insurance plans to ensure accessible care for our patients. Typically insurance will cover the cost of the tinnitus and/or misophonia evaluations. Tinnitus and misophonia management services, including consultations and sound generator programming, are not typically covered by insurance. Therefore, you will be responsible for the costs of these services. We will not bill insurance for these procedures. If your private insurance company offers hearing aid coverage, we will work with them to ensure payment. However, patients are responsible for understanding details of coverage and hearing aids or sound generators will not be dispensed until full payment is received. Please contact your insurance to verify your specific coverage or for any questions related to your insurance plan. I am licensed in the state of Florida.
